This is the ultimate small city because it has fewer than 1,200 people but has plenty of sights to see. It is located in Caldwell and Watauga counties and was founded by Scottish-Irish pioneers who settled the town in the 18th century. It is called the City of Windy Cliffs because of the cliffs that surround the town.
People visit the windy cliffs of Blowing Rock because there is a plethora of outdoor activities and recreational activities. Whether it's rock climbing, whitewater rafting, hiking, kayaking, tubing, snow-skiing, biking, and hiking. People even go on picturesque balloon rides over Blowing Rock to see the wind-swept cliffs.
